AI as a resume builder
I used ChatGPT as a tool to create the second and third resumes listed on this page by attaching my resume and starting with the following prompt:
“I need to embed multiple different versions of my resume on my personal website which I am creating for my Information Systems 101 class. Please use the pdf file I attached to create a resume that is specifically targeted towards Air National Guard and Reserve Squadrons.”
The resume it created for me originally was barely altered, so I encouraged it to further target the resume:
“Try to make it even more targeted”
That prompt gave me the finished product, and then I repeated the same prompt for the third resume:
“Now do the same, but target it towards becoming an Economist, analyst, or similar business role.”
What changed?
Though my resume was not altered extremely, the personal statement and experience information was tailored just enough to make my resume fit the target audience.
What did I learn?
My biggest takeaway is that artificial intelligence sometimes needs more specific prompts or further emphasis on what you want. These changes usually can get the AI to give you a more desirable outcome/product.
